Yet when it comes to digital communication, they are often left out in the cold. The employee app is supposed to be about getting connected &#8211; but how often is it used less on those same smartphones?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"pb__8\">In this article, we take a look at <strong>why this is the case<\/strong>, what <strong>hurdles there are<\/strong> &#8211; and how you can overcome them step by step.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading pb__5\"><strong>The problem: app use by non-desk workers falls short of expectations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"pb__8\">In workshops with companies from industry, healthcare, logistics and trade, we identified three key reasons why non-desk workers often use the app less than they would like:<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading pb__5\"><strong>1. no time for app use in everyday working life<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"pb__8\">\n<li>In shift work, nursing homes or on assembly lines , everyday life is a clocked routine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8221; A quick look atthe app &#8221; is simply unrealistic for many &#8211; or even forbidden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"pb__5\"><strong>Solutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"pb__8\">\n<li><strong>Actively allow people to look at their cell phones<\/strong>: Clear approvals from superiors help enormously. If you know that it is allowed, you will be more relaxed when using the app. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Create time slots<\/strong>: If there is no room for the app during ongoing operations, time should be deliberately set aside for it &#8211; e.g. during breaks, handover times or team meetings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Push notifications with real added value<\/strong> &#8211; e.g. current shift schedules, canteen menu or warnings in the event of faults.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kiosk or information terminals<\/strong> in common rooms, where content is visible even without a smartphone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Micro-content<\/strong>: content that can be understood in less than a minute &#8211; crisp, visual , mobile.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading pb__5\"><strong>2. technical hurdles &amp; uncertainty<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"pb__8\">\n<li>Many employees are not very tech-savvy or do not use complex apps in their private lives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fear of &#8221; breaking something &#8221; or being overwhelmed is widespread.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"pb__5\"><strong>Solutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"pb__8\">\n<li><strong>Simple onboarding<\/strong>: with video tutorials, personal explanations or support from app ambassadors from your own shift.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong> On-site support<\/strong>: e.g. fixed contact persons or consultation hours for questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Simple, clear language<\/strong>: no technical terms, no endless clicks &#8211; &#8221; One Tap, One Info&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading pb__5\"><strong>3. fear of surveillance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"pb__8\">The Staffice app was specifically designed to <strong>also work on private devices<\/strong> &#8211; especially to reach non-desk workers. This is a huge advantage, but it also brings challenges: <\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;Will I be controlled via the app?&#8221; &#8211; this concern is widespread.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"pb__8\">Mistrust can be particularly high in sensitive working relationships.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"pb__5\"><strong>Solutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"pb__8\">\n<li><strong>Clear communication on data use<\/strong>: What is stored? What for?
